• The office buildings waterfront site on Dublin’s Grand Canal Basin

  • The vibrant office building viewed from South Dock Street

Barrow Street

Henry J Lyons Architects were invited to participate in a limited competition for a new office building for technology tenants on this waterfront site on Dublin’s Grand Canal Basin. The site included an old warehouse building to be retained and integrated within the development. The design response was to provide two cranked linear buildings connecting Barrow Street to the water’s edge. The two buildings almost touch at the centre of the site where the buildings lifts and circulation cores connect to each other by a series of platforms which enjoy views of both the waterbody and the street. The building is raised high over the ground plain allowing the retained docklands buildings to maintain their relationship with the basin. The exaggerated structure of the new buildings relates to the industrial archaeology of cranes gantries and loading silo’s.

A new public space with ground floor café is proposed on the water’s edge where users of the buildings above and the public can enjoy the waterside amenities.
